Caedmon's Hymn Assignment

  1. Copy the hymn to your notes (handwritten)
  2. Read it aloud to yourself or friend
  3. DO NOT look up the translation online.
  4. I MEAN IT.
  5. Write down all the words you recognize or think you recognize.

WEST SAXO VERSION
Verse Early Saxon

Nu sculon herigean heofonrices weard,
meotodes meahte and his modgeþanc,
weorc wuldorfæder, swa he wundra gehwæs,
ece drihten, or onstealde.

He ærest sceop eorðan bearnum
heofon to hrofe, halig scyppend;
þa middangeard moncynnes weard,
ece drihten, æfter teode
firum foldan, frea ælmihtig.
